A patient may elect mons pubic lift and mon pubis reduction surgery due to varying reasons including a disproportionate amount of fat or skin on the mons which results in a bulging or drooping appearance.

Reduction of the mons pubis can be achieved by liposuction or excision – if there is bulging, redundant, or sagging tissue or if a patient has had a lot of weight loss and there is a lot of extra hanging tissue. If only liposuction is needed to reach the desired results, a few tiny incisions are made and the extra fat is removed. Each mons pubic lift and reduction is a customizable procedure and you will have the opportunity to discuss your desired results with Dr. John G. Hunter during your complimentary consultation. Some patients elect to have the procedure performed in conjunction with labiaplasty surgery (labia minora reduction surgery).
Quick Facts – Mons Pubis Lift and/or Reduction with Liposuction
- How much does Mons Pubis Lift / Reduction surgery hurt: Mild pain; you may experience an ache for 3 – 5 days.
- Time off of work or school: 2 days if liposuction only. Approximately 3-5 days if surgical excision of the Mons Pubis is needed.
- Time until driving again: You may drive once you are off narcotic pain medications.
- Time off the gym: Usually about 2 weeks depending on the extent of the procedure.
- How long the effects of a Mons Pubis Lift “lasts”: Usually a lifetime unless you have large fluctuations in your weight.

Most of our patients tell us this is preferable to a hospital setting or a large surgery center as patient privacy is more fully protected and a patient is never exposed to hospital-based germ cross-contamination.
What type of anesthesia is used for surgery? In most instances, mons pubic lift and reduction surgery (pubis liposuction) is performed in our NYC office under local anesthesia.
Will the fat removed come back? After puberty, the body does not create new fat cells. The fat cells that are removed from a mons pubis reduction with liposuction are permanently removed. The fat does not come back.
